When it comes to Vietnamese cuisine, pho is easily one of the most iconic dishes you can find. But during my recent trip to Vietnam, I came across a Michelin-recognised spot that completely changed the way I look at this classic dish — Pho Viet Nam.
This isn’t just another bowl of pho. It’s an experience.
A Quick Look at Pho Viet Nam
Pho Viet Nam has gained attention for elevating a humble, everyday dish into something worthy of Michelin recognition. While many places focus purely on tradition, this restaurant blends authenticity with a touch of creativity — and that’s exactly what makes it stand out.
First Impressions: Street Meets Comfort
One thing I immediately noticed was the contrast in dining setup.
Right outside the restaurant, you get the full local Vietnamese street dining experience — low plastic tables and chairs, shaded by trees, with a lively atmosphere that feels incredibly authentic.
Step inside, and it’s a different story. The interior is small but much more structured and comfortable. It still maintains that casual vibe, but with a cleaner and slightly more refined setting. It’s almost like getting the best of both worlds — street culture outside, and a cozy dine-in experience inside.

Kitchen & Dining Environment
The kitchen here is open and constantly busy, with staff working quickly to prepare each bowl. There’s a sense of energy and authenticity — you can tell everything is made fresh on the spot.
As for the dining environment, it does get a little crowded during peak hours due to the limited space, but that actually adds to the charm. It feels lively, local, and real — exactly what you’d expect from a popular spot like this.
Customising Your Bowl: Sauces & Homemade Sides
Another highlight here is how customizable your pho can be.
Each table comes fully equipped with a range of condiments:
- Chilli sauce
- Pickled soya bean sauce
- Calamansi (for that citrus kick)
- Chilli flakes
On top of that, they also serve a selection of homemade sides, including:
- Sambal-style chilli
- Pickled vegetables
- Onions
- A chilli that surprisingly reminded me of chicken rice chilli
These additions allow you to adjust the flavour exactly to your liking, making every bowl feel personal.

The Food: Where It Gets Interesting
Pho Bap Hot (Beef Shank Pho)
We started with their signature Pho Bap Hot, a comforting bowl of beef shank pho.
The broth was rich yet clean, with a natural sweetness that builds as you sip. The beef shank was incredibly tender, soaking up all that flavour, while the noodles tied everything together perfectly.
It’s familiar, but done exceptionally well — the kind of bowl that reminds you why pho is so loved in the first place.

Pho Tho Da (Hot Stone Pho)
Now this is where things get exciting.
The Pho Tho Da is not your typical pho. Served in a hot stone bowl, it turns into an interactive experience — almost like a Vietnamese take on shabu-shabu.
You’re given raw slices of beef, which you dip into the boiling broth to cook. The noodles go into the stone bowl, absorbing all the flavours as the broth continues to simmer.
This was honestly my first time trying pho this way, and it completely changed the experience. The meat felt fresher, more tender, and cooking it yourself adds a level of engagement you don’t usually get with pho.
It’s unique, memorable, and definitely something you won’t find everywhere.

Pho Viet Nam isn’t just about serving good pho — it’s about reimagining how pho can be experienced.
From the mix of street-style and indoor dining, to the wide variety of condiments, and especially the hot stone pho concept, this place offers something beyond the usual.
Would I come back?
Yes — especially for that hot stone pho. It’s something different, and definitely worth trying at least once.
