Samsung has released the Galaxy S23 FE after skipping the Galaxy S22 series. The ‘Fan Edition’ series is known for offering top-notch features at affordable prices, making it a favorite among budget-conscious users. We’ve spent a week with the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, and here’s what we think.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE boasts a premium design with a glass back (Corning Gorilla Glass 5), which is a significant upgrade from the plastic panel on the S21 FE. It closely resembles the flagship S23 model, making it hard to tell the difference. It’s great to see high-end design on more affordable devices.
While it might not match its pricier siblings in fit and finish, the S23 FE doesn’t feel cheap. It’s well-built with sleek contours and a smooth finish. The raised rear camera design adds a touch of class, and the Mint green color we tested looks stunning.

Display
The S23 FE features a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a 2,340 x 1,018 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is incredibly bright, with a typical brightness of 1,200 nits and a peak brightness of 1,750 nits for outdoor use. Samsung’s Vision Booster technology ensures the screen remains vibrant in various lighting conditions, even under direct sunlight.

The screen offers a variable refresh rate that adjusts from 1Hz to 120Hz depending on your activities, enhancing smooth scrolling and gaming while conserving battery life. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and is IP68 rated for water and dust resistance.
The stereo speakers provide clear and loud audio, enhanced by Dolby Atmos for a broader sound experience. Gamers have the option to enable Dolby Atmos specifically for gaming. Overall, the speakers offer an impressive audio experience.

Camera
The Galaxy S23 FE features a triple rear camera system, including a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom. There’s also a 10MP front camera for selfies. Samsung’s Nightography feature improves low-light photography.
Both the primary and ultrawide cameras deliver sharp and vibrant images in various lighting conditions. The telephoto lens supports 3x optical zoom, and while it performs well during the day.

The phone excels at producing bokeh-rich portraits while maintaining sharp subject details. You can use the primary sensor for portraits, achieving a 2x zoom for low-light scenarios where the telephoto lens falls short.

The phone supports video recording up to 8K resolution with the primary sensor and 4K from all rear sensors. The video recording experience is smooth and on par with other smartphones in its price range.

Performance
The Galaxy S23 FE is equipped with a Samsung Exynos 2200 processor, offering fast multitasking and seamless app switching. It provides a nearly flagship-level performance, coming close to the Galaxy S23.
For gamers, the device offers smooth gameplay, although it may get a bit warm during intensive gaming sessions such as Genshin Impact and Alsphat 9.

Battery
With a 4,500mAh battery, the Galaxy S23 FE easily lasts a day of normal use. It charges quickly, reaching 71% in just 55 minutes with the 25W Samsung charger. The phone supports wireless and reverse wireless charging, giving it an edge over other phones in its category.

Verdict
The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is available in Mint, Graphite, and Purple, with two storage options: 128GB and 256GB. We recommend the 256GB version, as 128GB can fill up quickly with games, videos, and photos. While some may find the initial price high, Samsung is currently offering a RM300 instant rebate, making it a great deal. Check out these deals on Samsung’s official website for more information.
