Taeki Chan Whenever Samsung announces a new version of their extremely popular Galaxy Series A phones, it creates a buzz in the tech community. The Galaxy Series A has always managed to pack in some of the best features found on the more expensive Series S phones at affordable prices.
So, when Samsung announced many new phones at its March Series A launch, we were hoping to get a sneak peek of the much-anticipated Galaxy A73 and here it goes, we manage to get one of the Samsung Galaxy A73 with us here. After sharing our first impression of this Galaxy A73, let’s check out our full review after using it for 1 week.
The Design
The Galaxy A73 looks and feels exactly like the Galaxy A53 we have reviewed recently. It’s made of plastic but has a matte finish with a cutout for its multi-lens camera. The camera bump has a smooth gradient rather than a sharp edge, something that impressed us. Its fits so much better in our hands too.
Even though the back is of a plastic-like material, Samsung has mentioned that the series beholds a design that’s eco-conscious yet stylish and slim. Not to forget, the phone’s Ambient Edge design at the back is done in a way to seamlessly blend the rear camera into the phone body.
Even if the back isn’t at all flat, I realized that the phone doesn’t shake or wobble when placed on flat surfaces.
Zooming into ports, the Galaxy A73 5G has a USB C-type port (USB on the go) at the bottom-middle with a single bottom-firing Dolby Atmos-supported speaker. While it is not the clearest speaker, the Galaxy A73 is still satisfyingly loud and full-bodied.
By all means, the Galaxy A73 5G is quite well-built, being quite comfortable to use. While we will miss out on the glass and metal, we will still be getting IP67 water and dust resistance which goes a long way to assure reliability. We have tried to submerge the phone into a pale of water for 5 mins and it still works well after that.
The Display
Being the best of the Galaxy A series, the A73 gets the nicest-looking display too. Its Super AMOLED screen is huge at 6.7-inch, and it is quite comfortable to use. Its screen is rated at 800 nits, and it’s definitely not the brightest but clarity is still good enough when out during the day via the adaptive screen brightness feature with more vibrant colors.
With a 120Hz refresh rate, the screen did not falter when we were running fast graphics (Asphalt 9, Social Media, and many more) The in-display fingerprint sensor is fast for an optical-type sensor too.
The Camera
Mobile phone cameras are something we at eRayn3 would be really looking at. This is also where the Galaxy A73 shines With its new 108MP main camera and some software tuning, the Galaxy A73 does a great job with the dynamic range, details, color accuracy, exposure, and noise suppression. Be it daylight or indoors, the camera consistently takes brighter photos with generous texture detailing and good exposure management. At night, we also got a class-leading photo with well-managed exposure, good noise suppression, and brighter overall photos.
However as the Galaxy A73 camera sensor is smaller than the S22 series, its 108MP camera definitely could not match it. We saw some noticeable loss in details when compare side-by-side.
The Performance
the Galaxy A73 5G is equipped with an octa-core Snapdragon778G processor which is optimized toward allowing for smoother 5G gaming as well as for better battery-life handling.
The difference we found between the Medium and High graphics settings was that the phone warms up faster. But it’s not to the point that the phone was uncomfortable to hold.
Moreover, shipping with a clean One UI 4.1, the Galaxy A73 5G was easy to navigate like many of Samsung’s previous Galaxy models and series. And because of the RAM Plus feature, we were able to keep over 8 apps open (including Asphalt and Youtube) without my phone showing any signs of sluggishness.
The audio quality out of the stereo speaker setup is good and loud enough. Thanks to the Snapdragon 778G, the phone beings up support for 5G connectivity, making it future-ready.
The Battery
With its 5000mAh battery, the Galaxy A73 usually lasts an entire day with an average of 30-40 percent of battery left. But of course, this scenario will not be possible if you are using it for a long hour of gaming or movies session. In general, it could definitely last you for more than a day.
The Galaxy A73 supports 25W fast wired charging and if you get a compatible charger (which is not included in the Galaxy A73 box), we would have to wait for about 1/5 hours for the battery to fill up the phone which left with 10% or lesser.
At the time, we found that the Galaxy A73 has more pros than cons and surprisingly impressed us with it! Despite sticking with the Snapdragon 778G again, the Galaxy A73 stays fast and smooth. The good camera performance and vibrant display also add to its appeal.
The rest were definitely above or at least at par with its competitor’s same range phones. For someone who is looking for a nice Android phone, the Galaxy A73 would be one of the phones that we would definitely recommend.
