Taeki Chan Samsung’s Galaxy A53 5G was unveiled at the brand’s ‘A Event’ on 16th March. It offers some great specs for a pretty reasonable price. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, this new smartphone looks very promising. We got a short hands-on with the new handset, and here is our first impression of this budget-friendly smartphone.
The Design. While the design language isn’t entirely different, the Design is still slightly different from its predecessor. While the older series had a much more protruded camera cut out, the Galaxy A53 series has a contour cutout which is what I like to call it as the protrusion gives a different kind of shadowy illusion which is pretty cool than the predecessor. The latter features a smooth shell with a matte finish and the camera module beautifully blends into the back. This makes the phone easy to slip into the pocket.
On the front, it sports a 6.5-inch full HD+ (1080 x 2400p) super AMOLED Infinity-O screen design. It supports 120Hz display refresh rate, which helps in delivering a smooth scrolling experience and reading on web browsers and also delivering a delightful gaming experience. Scrolling feels smooth and the panel is clear and bright, offering 800 nits of brightness.
As far as durability is concerned, it is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 shield. And, the device comes with the IP67 rating, meaning the device can survive underwater pressure up to 1 meter (around 3.2 feet) for close to 30 minutes and offers a fingerprint scanner too.
One thing you will have to invest in is a good USB-C Dongle or Headphones as this is also the first time the Samsung Galaxy A Series comes with no headphone jack built-in.
The Camera. The Galaxy A53 5G comes with a quad-camera module– main 64MP (f/1.8, OIS: Optical Image Stabilisation) + ultra-wide 12 MP (f/2.2) + 5MP (f/2.4) depth sensor+ 5MP (f/2.4) macro with LED flash on the back. And, it houses a 32MP (f/2.2) front camera for selfies and video chatting.
It packs a fairly impressive 64MP camera. It employs Samsung’s go-to AI photograph processing which delivers bright, high-contrast images that really pop. It is also equipped with ‘night mode’ photography too. Again, it’s not delivering the same level of photography as the more expensive Samsung phones, but we were impressed during our short hands-on test. We can’t wait to get our hands on the phone for a more thorough test soon.
Specification. The new Galaxy A53 5G is powered by Samsung’s very own Exynos 1280 octa-core backed by 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage (expandable up to 1TB) tunning on Android 12-based One UI 4.1 OS.
Battery. 5000mAh battery and 25W fast charging and Samsung claims they can deliver two days of battery life. We’ll test this out in more detail when we conduct our full test.
What’s In the Box. The Galaxy A53 ships with just a Type-C to Type-C data cable in the box along with some documentation and a SIM card ejector tool. This is the first time that Samsung had removed its chargers even from its mid-range phones hence you will not be expecting to receive any charger in future mid-range phones.
Overall, we’ve only had a short time with the Samsung Galaxy A53 and A33 handsets, but the first impressions are good. We like what we’ve seen and the specs sheet looks more than promising.
The large 5000mAh battery and the 120Hz adaptive refresh rate display are stand-out features. We’re also interested to spend more time testing out the ‘RAM Plus’ feature which allows users to employ some of their gigabytes of storage like RAM, giving the handset a little extra ‘oomph’.
With the price of RM 1849 for 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, this would be one of the mid-range phones that you would like to consider buying.
