When visiting Ho Chi Minh City, there are plenty of ways to experience the city from street level — exploring its markets, temples, cafés and busy streets. But if you want to see Saigon from a completely different perspective, Saigon Skydeck at Bitexco Financial Tower is worth a visit.
Located high above the heart of District 1, the Skydeck gives visitors a chance to step away from the chaos of the streets and see just how large and lively Ho Chi Minh City really is.
Seeing Saigon from Above
The main attraction is, of course, the panoramic view.
From the observation deck, you can look across the city in almost every direction. The contrast is fascinating — modern skyscrapers stand alongside older buildings, while the Saigon River cuts through the city and the busy streets below look surprisingly small from this height.
It is particularly interesting to spend some time simply looking at the different parts of the city and trying to recognise places you may have visited earlier.
Rather than just taking a few photos and leaving, I found it worthwhile to walk around the deck and take in the view from different angles.
But There’s More Than Just the View
One thing that surprised me about Saigon Skydeck is that the experience isn’t limited to an observation platform.
There are also shops and cultural attractions within the Skydeck area, making it feel more like a small visitor experience rather than simply a place to look out over the city.
This gives you something else to explore after you’ve finished taking in the skyline.
Discovering Vietnamese Culture
One of the more interesting parts is the museum-style cultural display, where visitors can learn more about Vietnamese traditions and heritage.
For travellers who are interested in the cultural side of Vietnam, this adds another dimension to the visit. Instead of only seeing the modern face of Ho Chi Minh City, you get a glimpse into some of the country’s traditional culture as well.
There is also a mini theatre showcasing traditional Vietnamese clothing, which I found particularly interesting.
Traditional costumes are presented in a way that allows visitors to appreciate the colours, designs and different styles of Vietnamese clothing. It is a nice reminder that behind the modern skyscrapers and rapidly developing city is a country with a long and distinctive cultural history.
A Different Way to Experience Ho Chi Minh City
What I enjoyed about Saigon Skydeck is the combination of modern architecture, city views and Vietnamese culture in one visit.
You can start by looking out over the modern skyline, then spend some time exploring the cultural exhibits, shops and traditional clothing presentation.
It makes the visit more varied than simply going to an observation deck, especially if you are travelling with someone who may not be particularly interested in spending a long time just looking at the view.
Is Saigon Skydeck Worth Visiting?
I think it is worth considering, particularly if this is your first trip to Ho Chi Minh City.
The biggest attraction is still the panoramic view, but the additional cultural elements make the experience more interesting. It gives you an opportunity to see both sides of Saigon — the modern, rapidly developing city and the traditional Vietnamese culture that remains an important part of its identity.
For me, the best part was simply seeing Ho Chi Minh City from above and appreciating how everything comes together — the river, roads, buildings and neighbourhoods that can feel so overwhelming when you’re walking through the city suddenly becoming part of one enormous landscape.
If you’re already exploring District 1, Saigon Skydeck is an easy attraction to add to your itinerary and offers a perspective of Ho Chi Minh City that you simply can’t get from the streets.
Sometimes, the best way to understand a city is to look at it from above.
