When we are in Petaling Street, of course, one of the place that we should visit besides the Petaling Street, Kwai Chai Hong (Jalan Panggung) and Jalan Alor, Central Market that is located about 100 meters away from Aces Hotel is also one of the main attraction in that area.
The original building was built in 1888 by the British in colonial British Malaya. It was used as a wet market for Kuala Lumpur citizens and tin miners and further expansions were made in 1889, 1895, 1920, and 1921. By 1933, the expansions to the warehouse made the market now its present size.
Back in 1990s, Central Market is one of the bustling markets that sells lots of local handicrafts and souvenirs. This time is the first time I’m visiting the Central Market again after my last visit in the year 1998. This revisit brings back lots of memories but at the same time, it gives me another new experience in the market.
The current Central Market we much cleaner but there were lesser shops that are open. The local handicraft creators were not much left in the market as well. The place was also not as crowded as before as well. Not sure whether this happens only after Covid19 or before.
If you would like to know more about what the Central Market has to offer now, I have created a video here to share what i found in the Central Market.
