Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE: Our First Impression

Last year, we had checked out the Samsung Galaxy’s Tab S7+ during their launch. This month, Samsung had impressed us again with an additional family member of the Tab S7 series; the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE (Fan Edition) which offers a much more affordable price by cutting down on some extra features to make tablets more accessible to all kinds of users.

In this article, we would like to share with you our first impression of the Galaxy Tab S7 FE.

Specification & Design. Out of the box, the Galaxy Tab S7+ feels premium. It gives us an impression that the Galaxy Tab S7 FE is the Galaxy Tab S7+ at first glance because these two tablets are similar in a lot of ways.

The front side is taken up by the huge 12.4-inch display, and the sides and back of the tablet are metallic, giving it a premium feel. Naturally, with that big screen, this thing requires two hands for comfortable use, though it’s not as heavy as we expect.

On the top side, you’ll find the power button, volume rocker, microphone, SIM tray combined with microSD slot, and a couple of antenna lines. On the right side, you’ll get the first speaker grille, another couple of antenna lines, and the USB-C port. On the left side, there is no button, but there are three antenna lines, the second speaker grille, and another microphone. Finally, at the bottom, there’s a couple of holes for securing the keyboard accessory, along with smart contacts for connecting accessories

Since this is the WiFi version, it doesn’t get mobile data connectivity. It supports 802.11ax WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and GPS.

One important change in design compared to the Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7+ is the lack of any magnetic strip on the back of the tablet for the S Pen to latch on to for charging. Not that charging is needed here, as the S Pen included with the Tab S7 FE is a standard stylus with no Bluetooth or gesture functionality.

Display. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE is equipped with a 12.4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1600×2560 pixels and 60Hz no refresh rate. It has a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is generally 16:9. So we’ve got more screen space. There are 8.9mm bezels on all 4 sides, which are important in tablets. And you get an 84.8% screen-ti-body-ratio.

The Camera. On the optics front, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE sports an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 5-megapixel sensor on the front selfie. The selfie camera and light sensor is placed above the display when you’re holding the tablet in landscape mode. This camera also serves as the only biometric authentication in this tablet: face recognition.

Audio. For taking pictures, it gets an 8MP rear camera and a front-facing 5MP shooter. Since this is the WiFI version, it doesn’t get mobile data connectivity. It supports 802.11ax WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and GPS. Also included is Samsung Dex which provides a desktop-like experience when you hook it up to a keyboard and mouse.

The Battery. The Galaxy Tab S7 FE is backed by a massive 10,090mAh battery which Samsung claims it could last up to 13 hours when you’re watching videos which we have yet to try out. It supports 45W charging via USB-C. Even with that, the company managed to keep a relatively slimmer profile which we were impressed with!

What’s In The Box. The Galaxy Tab S7 FE is equipped with a Quick Start Guide, Warranty Card, and Ejection Pin, Wired Earphone, a Charging Cable, and a 15W Super Fast Charging Adapter too!

Galaxy Tab S7 FE is priced at RM 1899 for 4GB + 64GB variant and RM 2199 for 6GB +128GB variant. It is available in four stunning colors – Black, Silver, and Light Pink.
